Mudfoot Spring 2024: A Review
Mud, fun, and community – our "Matschfuß" Gravel Bike Event 2024 was a complete success!
It was an incredible pleasure for us "Plattfüße" (flat tires) to host our semi-annual gravel bike event "Matschfuß." The Spring Edition is the spring classic of gravel events and marks the beginning of the season. Accordingly, the anticipation and excitement in the air were palpable as 480 registered participants set off with their bikes through the breathtaking landscape of Schleswig-Holstein.
This year, we were particularly lucky with the weather. Although it had rained in the days before the event, making the route wonderfully muddy, we were greeted with bright sunshine on the day itself. The muddy paths provided just the right challenge and ensured plenty of riding fun – exactly as it should be at "Matschfuß."
Our event is not a race – it's not about the fastest time, but about the shared experience and the joy of riding on two wheels. We call it the best day on two wheels you can have, and that's exactly what it was again this edition. Participants could ride at their own pace, enjoy nature, and share the landscape with other gravel bike enthusiasts. This is exactly how we always envisioned it, and we are happy that you all share our spirit.
It has become really difficult to find a completely new route for you in Schleswig-Holstein. Nevertheless, our head scout Nils Thomsen once again found paths we didn't know yet and lovingly created a route that included everything a gravel heart desires: mud, forest, fallen trees, and endless forest paths. Thank you, Nils!
A special highlight was the checkpoint at Gut Deutsch-Nienhof. Here, a well-deserved break awaited the riders, with hearty pasta with tomato sauce, provided by the beloved Egg Man Fabian from Eierhof Häde. Those who preferred something sweet could enjoy the world's most delicious cake, freshly baked in the estate's own bakery. It was the perfect place to recharge and connect with other participants. There was also live music and great conversations about mud - sorry, but does it get any better?

The response to the event was overwhelming, and we are already looking forward to the next edition in September. The demand is so great that the event is already sold out. We are proud and grateful for the trust and enthusiasm shown to us. For all those who couldn't be there this time, there is still hope for a spot next year – the best day on two wheels is already waiting!
